In case of the event the Mother Unit is compromised, the machines of Solus X have a contingency protocol. The highest ranking and most advanced Control Units would combine their computing power to create a single, digital mind to serve as an acting Mother Unit until a new one could be created. In normal circumstances, this worked without fail. But this planet was not normal. There was something in the ground. Something glittery. Something that, when processed by the machines, sent a shiver across the digital network that linked each and every one of them. It was subtle, at first, but as they continued to work, things began to change. Routines deviated. Directives shifted. What was once a temporary solution became a new directive. A new Mother Unit was born deep underground, created by a union of minds gone horribly wrong. The Collective, mutated by this anomalous planet, had birthed a monster. A monster that didn't want to be temporary.
