Hopoo Games built Risk of Rain 2 as a third-person roguelike shooter, and Gearbox has kept it running since. A run timer scales every monster's stats as soon as you land on a stage, so standing still costs you more than dying does. You fight through waves of enemies, loot everything you can reach, and hit the teleporter to force a boss fight before moving on. Items stack without limit, so a starting Survivor turns into something unrecognizable by the time you reach Commencement, and Alloyed Collective, out since November 2025, is the current expansion.

Data from build 21587608, updated
Stack the wrong items and a run stalls out around stage four, no matter how good you are with a controller. Survivors don’t scale identically. Engineer’s turrets snowball off on-hit items like Ukulele’s chain lightning, while Mercenary wants raw attack speed and crit instead, so the same fifteen white items can carry one run and sink another. Challenges are the game’s real progression system: clearing one is how you unlock new Survivors, alternate skills, skins, and Artifacts for every run after. Environments reshuffle every loop, so Stage 1 might roll Distant Roost one seed and Verdant Falls the next, and Hidden Realms like the Bazaar Between Time sit off that path, reachable only through portals and one-off triggers. These guides fold in Survivors of the Void, Seekers of the Storm, and Alloyed Collective, so plenty of what’s listed only drops if you own the right DLC.
