Your tool tier decides what you can break. An Oak Tree takes 5 hits with the Worn Axe, 3 with Copper, 2 with Iron and 1 with Gold, and shaking it first can drop an Acorn (25%). Large Stump and Deep Woods Stump need at least a Copper Axe and give Hard Wood. The Boulder wants a Copper Pickaxe and pays out 20 Stone and a Sapphire.

In the mines, Large Rocks gate by biome. Upper Mines and Tide Caverns take a Copper Pickaxe, Deep Earth Iron, Lava Caves Silver and Ancient Ruins Gold. Fruit trees and berry bushes regrow every 3 to 4 days in season.
