What every farm animal costs, makes and earns, and how hearts, breeding and colours work
Data from build 25583279, updated
Hayden sells 8 animals: 4 for the Coop and 4 for the Barn. Chicken and Cow are there from day one. Repair Hayden’s farm and Ducks, Rabbits, Sheep and Horses join them, then Alpacas and Capybaras turn up on Winter 1 of Year 1. The price tags look far apart (1,000t for a Chicken, 2,300t for an Alpaca and a Horse), but every one of them pays itself back in 50 to 53 days of produce at zero hearts. Buy for what you need. Cows feed 26 Milk recipes, Sheep and Rabbits keep the furniture bench in wool, and Chickens are the cheap start.
Every animal follows the same production ladder. Each step is per cycle, so a Cow at 4 hearts gives two Milk a day.

Golden versions sell for three times the regular price: a Golden Egg is 60t against 20t. You first see them at 8 hearts as a 10% bonus roll, and at 10 hearts the regular product stops dropping entirely. A few recipes want Golden goods by name, like Golden Cookies and Golden Cheesecake, so keep a few back.
Pet or pick up every animal once a day and keep the trough full: Hay for the Barn, Grass Seed for the Coop. Let them out on sunny or windy days, never in rain or snow, and get them inside before night or they skip a day’s produce. Hearts also lift resale: a Chicken goes from 350t at zero hearts to 1,150t at ten.
Two adults with 2 or more hearts, in the same building with a free space, each get a Heart Shaped Treat from Hayden (150t to 390t). Chicken and Duck eggs go in an incubator and hatch in 3 days. The other six are pregnant for 3 days instead. Two parents of the same colour give a baby one tier up, which is how you climb from the starter coats to Silver, Gold and the seasonal set. A Seasonal coat sells for double, so the chase pays. There are 123 colours in all.
Your mount is the Mistmare. Buy the Nice Ride perk at the Horse Statue (205 Essence) and any Alpaca, Cow, Horse and Sheep at 5 hearts unlocks as a look you can ride instead. Coop animals can’t be ridden.

Per day is the expected value of one adult’s produce, sold raw, before any Ranching perk. At 10 hearts everything comes out Golden, which works out to 3.3 times the zero-heart figure.
