Fear is the number the Oath of the Unseen keeps, and every rank of every Vow adds to it. The ranks aren’t priced evenly. Vow of Pain charges 1 Fear for foes that deal +20% damage, then 2 more for each of its next two ranks, topping out at +100% for 5 Fear. Vow of Rivals is the big one at 12 Fear across four ranks, and three of those ranks stay off the Oath until you cast the matching Rivals incantation at the Cauldron.

Vow Mechanics

Fear per Rank

Vow of Grit is the gentle slope, 1 Fear a rank for +10%, +20% and then +30% foe Health. Vow of Frenzy skips the warm-up and asks 3 Fear for foes 20% faster, then 3 more for 40%. Vow of Scars stays cheap until its last rank, where 2 Fear shuts off healing completely.

Cheap Fear

Vow of Debt costs 1 Fear per rank and only bites when you shop, pushing Gold prices up 40% and then 80%. Take it early. Vow of Time looks cheap at 1 Fear for a 9-minute timer on each Region, but 7 minutes costs 3 Fear in total and 5 minutes costs 6.

Vow of Rivals

Each rank of Rivals toughens the Guardian of one more Region, at 2, 3, 3 and 4 Fear. Rank 1 opens up after a conversation with Hecate. Ranks 2 to 4 need Rivals of Depth and Sea, Rivals of Plain and Peak and Rivals of Old and Rot, and each of those rites wants that tier’s two Guardians beaten 3 times before it shows up.
