48 zones, 15 mapped as full regions with room counts

Hallownest is one connected map, but the game carves it into 48 named zones, and the split isn't arbitrary. 15 of those are named regions you'll spend hours in: Forgotten Crossroads leads with 40 mapped rooms, City of Tears follows at 34, and Dirtmouth, the surface town above the well, is the smallest at just 1. The other 33 are landmarks and title cards, one-room stops like King's Pass and Watcher's Spire, or DLC spaces like Godhome and White Palace that skip a room count entirely because they're built differently from everywhere else. Cornifer sells the rough draft for most of the 15 main regions the first time you track him down, but the landmarks around them you just have to stumble into.

How Maps Work

Cornifer & Maps

You don’t start with a map: Cornifer sells the rough draft for most regions the first time you track him down there (follow the humming), and Iselda back in Dirtmouth turns that draft into something markable once you’ve bought the Quill from her. The Wayward Compass charm marks your position on whatever map you’re carrying, handy to keep equipped until you’ve got a region’s layout memorized.

Stag Stations

Stags are the fast travel network: most of the 11 stations charge a one-time Geo toll, anywhere from 50 to 300, and after that the Last Stag carries you there for free every time. Not every region has a station, so a few corners of Hallownest stay reachable only the slow way no matter how much of the map you’ve filled in.

Two counts sit on every card because the game keeps two. “On the map” is how many rooms Cornifer’s fragment actually draws; the total counts every room the game files under that region, including the boss arenas, transition corridors and dream spaces the map leaves blank.

33 zones, A to Z

These are the other 33 named zones: single rooms like King’s Pass, Watcher’s Spire and the Lower Tram, plus the big spaces the in-game map never covers. Godhome runs to 69 rooms and White Palace to 18, and both still read “Not on the map” because there is no map to buy for either. That is also why 15 of these cards have no fragment behind the title: no coverage, no fragment.
