Eight Enhancements that decide what a card does before it ever scores
Data from build 17459173, updated
Enhancements swap out what a playing card fundamentally is. Slap Glass Card on a King and it stops being a King that scores chips, it’s a x2 Mult card that might shatter into dust as soon as it’s played. There are eight of these in the deck: Bonus, Mult, Wild, Glass, Steel, Stone, Gold, and Lucky, and every standard card in your deck can carry only one. Most runs pick these up from Tarot cards like The Chariot or The Devil, which stamp a chosen Enhancement onto cards in your hand or deck, or from cards you find already Enhanced inside Standard Packs. Get greedy with Glass and Lucky and you’re gambling every hand; go full Steel and Gold and you’re playing it safe for steady mult and money. Either way, Enhancements are where Balatro stops being poker and starts being a spreadsheet you can break.
Every playing card in Balatro can carry three separate modifiers at once: an Enhancement, an Edition, and a Seal. Enhancement replaces the card’s core identity and how it scores (Bonus, Mult, Glass, and the others above). Edition is the cosmetic-and-stats layer (Foil, Holographic, Polychrome), and Seal is the sticker effect (Red Seal, Gold Seal, and others) that triggers on top of everything else. Editions and Seals get their own breakdown on the Keywords page, next to Tags, Blinds, and Stakes.
