Win a run on one Stake to open the next, and bring every rule from the rungs below along with you
Data from build 17459173, updated
Overview
Climbing the Stake ladder only ever adds rules. White is Balatro as designed. Red strips the $3 from every Small Blind, which is $24 you never see across eight Antes. Green makes each Ante’s chip target climb faster, and Purple steepens that curve a second time. Blue takes a discard off every round. The top three go after your Jokers instead, as shop Jokers start turning up Eternal at Black, Perishable at Orange and Rental at Gold. Win a run on a Stake and the one above it opens.
How Stakes Stack
Money & Discards
Red and Blue both squeeze your resources. Red’s empty Small Blind slows your interest from Ante 1, but a decent Joker line covers the gap. Blue hurts more. Flush and Straight builds dig through the deck with discards, and from Blue up you get one fewer every single round.
Score Scaling
Green and Purple carry the same tooltip, and they stack. Each one makes the required score grow faster from Ante to Ante, so by Purple a build that coasted through Ante 8 on White runs out of Mult well before the finish. Plan on scaling Jokers, not flat ones.
Joker Stickers
An Eternal Joker can’t be sold or destroyed. Great on a Joker you’d keep anyway, a disaster on a stopgap you meant to swap at Ante 3. Perishable Jokers get debuffed after 5 rounds, and Rental ones charge $3 per round to keep. Gold Stake lets all three sticker types into the same shop.
