Gift taste is the same shape for everyone: 10 loved items, 20 liked, one hated. That goes for the 26 townsfolk and for the 8 vendors who only turn up at the Saturday Market. 12 of the 34 can be dated and married. The search box matches gifts as well as names, so “Coffee” pulls up everyone who wants a cup.

How Gifts and Hearts Work

What a Gift Is Worth

One gift per person per day. A loved gift is +20 friendship, a liked one +10, anything else +3. Dislikes and hates earn nothing, but they cost nothing either. Birthdays are where the points are: +40 for a loved gift, and even a bug is worth +20. Talking is a free +7 a day, and nothing decays. Ten hearts takes 1,755 points.

Dislikes Come in Categories

Nobody dislikes one item at a time. Junk, weird gifts (pet treats, Clod Bombs) and bugs are disliked almost across the board, though Luc, Dell, Dozy and Henrietta are fine with bugs. Dell, Luc and Maple won’t accept alcohol, caffeine or bombs at all, and Dozy and Henrietta add chocolate to that. Floral Tea and Tulip Cake are liked by everyone, but the tea has caffeine, so keep it away from the kids.

Dating and Marriage

The 12 candidates have heart events at 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 hearts. The 8-heart event is the fork: romance or best friends. Dates run on weekends, one per partner per week, and you can date all 12 at once. At 10 hearts Elsie gives you the Engagement Ring recipe, and its material is only available once you’ve reached floor 100 of the mines. The wedding can be as soon as 5 days after the proposal. No divorce in 1.0, so choose well.
