Building has the most techs at 52, then Anatomy and alchemy at 47, Metallurgy at 45, Farming at 34, Theology at 28 and Cooking at 20. Buying the entire tree costs 11,157 red points, with green and blue on top, so no single playthrough finishes it. Research what you want to build next.
Tech points come from the work itself: crafts pay them, and so do farming, autopsies and Study Table surveys. A recipe lists the red, green and blue points it pays, so a craft you need anyway doubles as research.
Lines on the tree point from a tech to the ones it leads to. Every tech drawn into a node must be learned first, so having one of two parents isn't enough.
39 techs start hidden and stay off the tree until something reveals them. Quests reveal most of them. A few come from crafting, fishing or interacting with something in the world. If a tab looks incomplete, you haven't triggered the reveal yet.
13 techs add a reputation lock on top of the points. Circular Saw needs Jack at 40, Conveyors needs him at 50, and Reinforced Plank needs Herbert at 20.
